BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team defeated Marietta College today, 1-0 and 8-1, in a doubleheader in Berea. With the victories, the Yellow Jackets improve to 14-7 overall and 6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. B-W will next play on Sunday, April 13, when they travel to Otterbein college for a doubleheader starting at 2:00.
In the first game, freshman second basemen Casey Ward (Amherst) executed a suicide squeeze bunt that scored freshman outfielder Lindsay Kaya (Firelands), in the bottom of the sixth, for the only run of the game. Kaya and Ward had the only hits of the game with one single a piece. Ward also had two stolen bases.
On the mound, sophomore Jeanette Brezina (Parma Valley Forge) earned her fourth win of the season as she went all seven innings in the shutout, allowing five hits. She struck out two and had one walk.
In the nightcap, sophomore KC Young (Olmsted Falls) earned her fourth victory of the season on the mound, as she went the distance, allowing 10 hits and one run. She struck out seven and had no walks. Leading the hitting attack were freshman catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Catholic) who went three-for-four with two singles and a double. Senior All-OAC and Central Region pitcher/shortstop Evie Evans (Painesville/Harvey) also had a single and a double.
Following its twinbill versus Otterbein, B-W will next face Wooster College for a double header, Monday, April 14 in Berea at the Cuyahoga Fair Grouds. Game time is 3:30.
