Baldwin Wallace Softball Team Falls in Single Game at Hiram, 5-4

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University softball team lost, 5-4, at Hiram College today (Friday, April 23, 2010) at Myrtis E. Herndon Field in Hiram. The game was a late addition to the Yellow Jacket schedule.

With the loss, BW falls to 19-15 overall. Hiram improves to 16-13.

Hiram took an early 2-0 lead in the first before BW tied the game in the second with a two-run double by sophomore outfielder Meredith Fogg (Sandusky/Senior). The Yellow Jackets then moved ahead 4-2 with a pair of runs in the third. Junior first baseman Katrina Resek (Strongsville) tripled home senior outfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/Highland) then scored on a single by sophomore second baseman Katie Finley (Vermilion).

Hiram answered with two runs on five hits in its half of the third then scored the eventual winning run in the sixth.

For the game, Resek was 2-for-3 with two runs and a run batted-in. Saunders was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

On the mound, sophomore Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) pitched her 18th complete game but fell to 16-9 for the year. She allowed five earned runs on nine hits and struck out five.

The Yellow Jackets were scheduled to play an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wilmington College tomorrow afternoon, but the doubleheader has been postponed due to pending inclement weather. An official make-up date has yet to be announced.

BW also wraps up the home portion of its schedule with Seniors' Day on Wednesday, April 28 versus Otterbein College. First pitch from Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field is set for 3:30 p.m.
