The B-W Softball Team Wins a Twinbill at Wilmington to Even its Season Marks at

6-6 Overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team won a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games today (Sunday, April 4) in Wilmington at Wilmington College, 8-6 and 4-2 to even its overall record at 8-6 and its OAC slate at 2-2.

In the first game, B-W scored twice in the first inning, two more in the third and aded four in the sixth to build an 8-1 lead before the Quakers tallied five in the last inning to make it a close game.

Offensively, sophomore All-American catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) led the 10-hit attack with two safeties, including a double, run scored and two runs batted-in. Senior Academic All-OAC pitcher Liz Fries (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) gained the win on the mound by throwing the complete game and allowing 13 hits, six runs (two earned) and striking out five Quaker batters. Fries improved to 3-1 overall and has a team-leading 1.81 earned run average.

In the nightcap, B-W tallied twice in the first inning and two more times in the fourth to beat the Quakers for the second straight game and eighth straight time in the last four years. Junior ace pitcher K.C. Young (Olmsted Falls) allowed eight hits and one earned run as she tossed a complete game to improve to 2-3 overall. Young strick out seven and walked one. She also helped herself at the plate as she was the only B-W player to get two hits, including a double and an RBI.

After 14 games, sophomore outfielder Lindsay Kaya (Oberlin/ Firelands) continues to lead the team in hitting at .462. She is followed by junior transfer second baseman Amy Gladieux (Northwood) at .395, junior OF Jackie White (Cleveland/ Holy Name) at .375, Young at .364 and Loudin at .326. In addition to Young and Fries on the mound, senior Jeanette Brezina (Parma Valley Forge) is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, April 6 when they host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in Berea in an OAC doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m. B-W will also travel to Alliance to play OAC rival Mount Union College in a twinbill on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and end the week with two games on Friday, April 9 at Marietta College.
