Muskingum College in New Concord
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games today (Saturday, April 17) to OAC-rival Muskingum College, 1-0 and 7-0, at Muskingum in New Concord, Ohio.
With the losses, B-W is now 13-11 overall and 7-7 in the OAC. With their two wins, the Fighting Muskies are now 27-3 overall and 12-0 in the OAC.
In the first game, the Yellow Jackets managed just three hits against Muskie starter Erica Hoyt and Muskingum scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning to win. Despite the loss, junior pitcher K.C. Young (Olmsted Falls) pitched an outstanding game as she allowed just three hits and one earned run. Young also struck out two batters and walked just one. Muskingum scored its winning run in the final inning when Nicole Blubaugh doubled to score Erin Zupko, who led off the inning with a base hit.
In the nightcap, Muskingum scored twice in the first inning, once in the third and twice each in the fifth and sixth innings to win again by shutout. Despite that loss, sophomore All-American catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) and senior first baseman Jeanette Brezina (Parma Valley Forge) each had a pair of base hits.
B-W will next play tomorrow, Sunday, Apri 18 when they host a rescheduled twinbill against Ohio Wesleyan University at 3:30 p.m. at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. In addition next week, B-W is home for doubleheaders with OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University (Tuesday, April 20), Ursuline College (Thursday, April 22), OAC rival Capital University (Saturday, April 24) and nonleague and Cleveland rival Notre Dame College of Ohio (Sunday, April 25).
