The B-W Softball Team Sweeps a Pair of Games, 1-0 and 4-0, Against Capital in

Berea to Qualify for the OAC Tournament

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team swept a pair of key Ohio Athletic Conference games today (Saturday, April 24) from OAC rival Capital University, 1-0 and 4-0, to end the OAC regular season at the Cuyahoga County Fairgounds Field in Berea.

With the wins, the Yellow Jackets are now 20-12 overall, finish the OAC regular season at 11-7 and qualify for next weekend's OAC Tournament in New Concord and at Muskingum College. B-W has also won seven straight games.

In the first game, junior ace K.C. Young (Olmsted Falls) tossed a complete-game shutout and junior second baseman Amy Gladieux (Northwood) singled home sophomore All-American catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) with the winning run in the fourth inning. Capital had intentionally walked Loudin to start the fourth inning.

Young pitched all seven innings, allowed three hits and no runs and struck out four and did not walk a batter. Offensively, B-W managed just four base hits.

In the nightcap, senior Jeanette Brezina (Parma Valley Forge) pitched a complete-game seven hitter for her first shutout of the year. Brezina did not strike out or walk a batter.

B-W scored its first two runs of the game on homeruns. Sophomore shortstop Casey Ward (Amherst/ Marion Steele) had the game-winning hit and homer to open the first inning. Loudin made the score 2-0 in favor of B-W with her 10th homer of the season which ties her own B-W single-season record which she set as a freshman. B-W would then score insurance runs ikn the fourth and sixth innings to stretch its winning ways to seven straight. Offensively, Ward was the only B-W player to have a pair of base hits.

B-W will next play on Tuesday, April 27 when they host nonleague rival Allegheny (Pa.) College in a doubleheader at the Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m.
