BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost to Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 6-5, this morning (Monday, March 10) in the first of two games today at the annual Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. B-W is scheduled to play Husson (Maine) College at 1:00 p.m. in its second contest.
Lake Forest jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in each of the bottom of the first two innings before the Yellow Jackets scored once in the top of third and two more in the fifth to close to within 4-3. Husson added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-3 lead. B-W scored twice in the top of the seventh but its rally fell short.
Despite the loss, B-W was led at the plate by freshman catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and junior first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Senior) with two hits each. Davis, who is batting .583 (seven-of-12) after the first three games, also scored three runs. Myor also had a pair of runs batted-in and now has a team-leading five in the three contests.
In addition to Davis and Myor, sophomore third baseman Megan Coyne (Valley City/ LaGrange Keystone) and junior rightfielder Katy Munshower (Natrona Heights, Pa./ Highland) had B-W’s other two base hits. Coyne also had a pair of RBI.
On the mound, freshman Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky/ Senior) started, pitched all six innings and took the loss to fall to 0-2. She allowed 12 base hits, six runs (all earned), struck out one Lake Forest batter and walked six.
Following its afternoon game against Husson, B-W will return to action on Tuesday, March 11 when it plays the United States Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) at 3:00 p.m. and then play Transylvania State (Ky.) University at 5:00 p.m.
