The Baldwin Wallace University Softball Team Loses Twice to Muskingum in Berea

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University softball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wilmington College, today (Saturday, April 21, 2007) at Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field Field on Seniors’ Day in Berea.  The Fighting Muskies won the first game, 8-2, and earned the sweep with an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.

With its losses, the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-20 overall and 2-12 in the OAC. With its wins, Muskingum improves to 27-7 overall and 13-1 in the OAC.

In the first game, Muskingum jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning, added two more in the third and three in the fourth to build a 7-0 advantage. BW closed to within 7-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Fighting Muskies added an insurance run in the seventh for  the victory.

Despite the loss and offensively, BW had eight base hits, including two by sophomore first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria) . Senior All-OAC catcher Molly Sersig (West Salem/ Northwestern) drove home Myor with the second of back-to-back doubles and sophomore pitcher Katey Munshower (Natrona Heights, Pa./ Highlands) scored Sersig with a base hit.

       
On the mound, Munshower suffered the loss after starting and tossing the first three plus frames. She was followed to the mound by freshman Dainelle Litton (Lodi/ Cloverleaf) in the fourth and freshman Meghan Ronk (Crestline) pitched the final three innings.

In the nightcap, the Fighting Muskies again jumped out to a 7-0 lead with one run in the first, four in the second and two in the third innings. BW got as close as 7-3 with three runs of its own in the fifth inning before Muskingum added an insurance run in the sixth for the win and sweep.

Despite the loss and offensively, Sersig had a pair of hits, including a three-run homerun, her fourth of the season, and sophomore catcher Shea Monschein (Wellington) had a pair of hits.

On the mound, sophomore Jessica Shaffer (Brookfield) started and took the loss to fall to 2-9 overall. She was followed to the mound by Ronk and then Litton.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 25 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to play OAC rival Ohio Northern University in an OAC doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
