Baldwin-Wallace College Softball Team Loses Twice at Capital

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost a pair of games at Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today (Mondlay, April 9, 2007) at Clowson Field in Columbus. The Crusaders won the first game, 8-0 in six innings, and captured the nightcap, 5-3.

With its losses, the Yellow Jackets are now 6-14 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. Capital is 14-10 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Crusaders scored two times in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead and then added three runs in the second inning and one run in the third, fourth and sixth innings to win by the eight-run rule.

Despite the loss, sophomores Shea Monschein (Wellington) and Jessica Shaffer (Brookfield) each had one hit for the Yellow Jackets.

In the second game, Capital led, 4-0, after three innings before B-W scored three runs in the top of the fourth frame to cut the Crusader lead to 4-3. Capital then scored an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the 5-3 win.

Freshman Jessica Esch (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) had one base hit in two at-bats with one run-batted-in and a run scored to lead the Yellow Jacket batters. On the mound, Shaffer threw four and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and walked three Capital batters. Sophomore Katey Munshower (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) relieved Shaffer and gave up one hit in one and one-third innings of work.

The Yellow Jackets next play on Wednesday, April 11, when they host Heidelberg College in an OAC doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
