Baldwin-Wallace College Softball Team Sweeps Heidelberg, 10-0 and 7-0

BEREA, OHIO -- Three Yellow Jackets hit a homerun in two games as the Baldwin-Wallace College softball team swept a pair of games against Heidelberg College in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today (Friday, April 20, 2007) at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 10-0, in eight innings and won the nightcap, 7-0.

With the wins, the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-16 overall and 2-10 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 5-27 overall and 2-12 in the OAC.

In the first game, B-W took a 3-0 lead in the third inning when freshman center fielder Nikki Glazer (Strongsville) reached on a fielder’s choice and then the Heidelberg third base had an error on the play and senior second baseman Lisa Liotta (Chardon/Berkshire) scored from first, sophomore left fielder Rachel Krause (Parma/Valley Forge) scored from first and Glazer came all the way around and scored on the play. B-W would increase its lead to 5-0 in the second inning on two Heidelberg errors. In the fith inning the Yellow Jackets scored one run and then in the sixth they scored four runs capped by a three-run homer by senior catcher Molly Sersig (West Salem/Northwestern).

B-W was led at the plate by Sersig, who was three-for-four with three RBIs and a run scored. Krause was three-for-four with two runs scored.

On the mound, sophomore Katey Munshower (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) improved her record to 4-8 on the season as she went six innings giving up four hits, while striking out five Heidelberg batters.

In the second game, B-W scored three runs in the first inning to lead 3-0. In the fourth inning the Yellow Jackets would increase their lead to 4-0 when freshman first baseman Lauren Hoffer (Crestline) hit a lead-off homerun, her second on the season. After adding adding two more runs inthe fifth inning to lead 6-0, Liotta opened-up the bottom of the sixth inning with a homerun and the Yellow Jackets went on to the 7-0 win.

Glazer led the B-W at the plate as she was four-for-four with two runs scored.

On the mound, sophomore Jessica Shaffer (Brookfield) picked up the win as she pitched at two-hitter in the nightcap.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday, April 21, 2007) when they host OAC rival and No. 10 nationally ranked Muskingum College Fighting Muskies in an OAC doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
