The Yellow Jacket Softball Team Sweeps Wilmington College in an OAC

Doubleheader, 6-1 and 8-0 in Six Innings on Senior Day

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today (Sunday, May 1) with OAC rival Wilmington College on Senior Day at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea. Yellow Jackets captured the first game, 6-1 and the second game 8-0 in six innings. Senior pitcher/designated player K.C. Young (Olmsted Twp./ Olmsted Falls) pitched a perfect second game in her final home game of her career.

With the wins, B-W is now 16-18 overall and ends the OAC regular season with a 9-9 record. With the pair of losses, Wilmington ends its season 2-33 overall and 2-16 in the OAC.

In the opener, the Yellow Jackets recorded twelve hits in the game and scored a combined five runs in the first three innings to give B-W a commanding 5-0 lead. The Quakers scored its only run in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by Molly Countryman cutting the lead to 5-1. B-W added to its lead in the fifth on a RBI sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Beth Rubosky (Roaming Shores/ Grand Valley) set up by a double by senior pitcher/first baseman Jeanette Brezina (Parma Heights/ Valley Forge). On the mound, Brezina went the distance, pitching all seven innings allowing seven hits, one run and struck out four batters. At the plate, senior pitcher/ designated player K.C. Young, who started the game in right field, went three-for-four with a run scored. In addition to Young, senior outfielder Jackie White (Cleveland/ Holy Name) and two-time All-American catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) both had two hits in four attempts.

In the second game, B-W had a 3-0 lead after four innings of play. The Yellow Jackets put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth inning highlighted by a two RBI double by Rubosky enforcing the eight-run rule after six innings. At the plate, Rubosky was a perfect two-for-two with two runs scored and two RBI. Four other Yellow Jacket players each recorded a hit.

In addition to her perfect game on the mound,Young pitched her 17th complete game of the season, allowing no hits and struck out seven batters to improve 8-9 overall for the season.

The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, Monday, May 2 when they travel to Meadville, Pa. for a non-conference doubleheader against Allegheny College in the regular-season finale at 3:30 p.m.
