Stacey Floom Named to First-Team Verizon Academic All-District IV Squad;

Liz Fries and Tricia Rhomberg Are Second-Team Choices

softball02.jpgBEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University junior third baseman Stacey Floom (Massillon Jackson High School) has been selected to the 2002 first-team Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Softball Team.

Floom, who carries a 3.83 grade point average in physical therapy, now advances to the College Division All-America ballot.  This season, she batted .324 and had 22 runs batted-in.  Off the softball field, Floom is a member of the Alpha Lambda Academic Honor Society and Dayton C. Miller Honor Society.  She is also a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.

In addition, senior catcher Tricia Rhomberg (Mentor H.S.) and sophomore pitcher Liz Fries (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson H.S.) were selected to the second-team All-softball01.jpgDistrict IV squad.  Rhomberg carries a 3.85 GPA in education and is a two-time Academic All-OAC pick. Fries has a 3.867 GPA in sports medicine and was named to the 2002 second-team Academic All-OAC squad.

Amanda Opperman Named to the Second-Team All-Central Region Squad;
Cellurale and Evans Are Third-Team Picks

Junior first baseman Amanda Opperman (North Royalton H.S.) has been named to the second-team All-Central Region squad.  Opperman topped the team in hitting with a .427 batting average and was first with 56 base hits, 34 runs scored and 12 doubles.  The 56 base hits and 12 doubles are the second most in a season in school history.  A year ago, Opperman was a third-team All-Region pick.  She ends her junior as the BW all-time career leader with 163 base hits.  She also has 32 career doubles which ranks second all-time.

Seniors Cara Cellurale (Cleveland/ Uniontown, Pa. Laurel Highlands H.S.) and softball03.jpgEvie Evans (Painesville Harvey H.S.) have been selected to the third-team All-Central Region squad.  Both are also members of the 2002 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Teams.

Cellurale is a first-team All-OAC selection for the second straight year at second base.  Evans was named to the All-OAC team for the third straight season.  This year, Evans was named a second-team shortstop after being tabbed to first-team in 2001 and second-team in 2000 as a pitcher.  Evans was a first-team all-region pitcher in 2001 and Cellurale was a third-team all-region pick in 2001.

Cara Cellurale joined the Yellow Jacket program prior to the 2001 season made an impact both seasons that she played at BW.  Cara hit .374 this year with four homers and 23 RBI. In only two seasons, she had a .422 career average with 97 base hits in 230 at-bats with 30 runs scored, 23 doubles, a triple, eight homers and 52 runs batted-in.   In addition to being named All-OAC a year ago, she was also an OAC All-Tournament team pick and All-Central Region selection when she batted a school-record .463 overall.softball04.jpg

Evie Evans, who still has a year of eligibility remaining, has been a key mainstay since transferring to BW from Division I Cleveland State University three years ago. She is one of the best to ever wear the Brown & Gold and step on the softball diamond. In addition to being an All-OAC pick, she is a three time OAC Player of the Week and 2001 first-team All-Central Region selection. During her career, Evie has a .323 career batting average with 121 base hits, 64 runs scored, 18 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 60 RBI. On the mound, she has appeared in 63 career games, including 52 starts, and compiled a 29-22 record with a 1.69 earned run average and 318career strikeouts to rank second all-time in school history.
