The Yellow Jacket Program is One of the Best in Division III
The competitive softball program at BW began in 1970 and made the switch from slow-pitch to fast-pitch in 1985. Whether fast-pitch or slow-pitch, BW annually has been regarded as one of the best squads in the Ohio Athletic Conference and regionally at the NCAA Division III level.
"We want the student-athlete who plays softball at BW to have fun, learn about the game and be competitive," said Head Coach Tom Spencer.
"We want to work hard to learn the fundamentals during the fall and then apply them in the spring," he said. "Our goal is to compete at the OAC Tournament in May and hopefully at the NCAA Division III regional and national levels.
"We have a strong tradition," said Spencer, who returned to BW in 2007-08 after stints at NCAA Division I Butler (Ind.) University and Notre Dame College (Ohio). "The young woman who plays softball at BW has the chance to get a quality education and fun in a winning program."
The Ohio Athletic Conference
The Yellow Jackets play in the extremely competitive 10-team Ohio Athletic Conference. The OAC, considered to be among the finest Division III conferences in the nation, offers competition in 21 NCAA Division III sports for men and women.
The OAC receives a great deal of respct regionally and nationally in softball. BW was last invited to the NCAA Division III Central Regional Tournament in 1992 and placed second.
The Facilities and BW's Home Field
BW has one of the finest recreation and practice facilities in Division III athletics. Home games are played at the Yellow Jacket Field at the The Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, which is within walking distance of all residence halls.
The BW Recreation Center allows for an early start on indoor practice and The George Finnie Stadium, with its Field Turf surface, gives the BW softball program a jump on early outdoor workouts.
