Five B-W Softball Players Selected All-OAC and Murray is the Rookie of Year

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team placed five student-athletes, including four freshmen, on the 2011 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. The Yellow Jackets ended their regular season with a 27-9 overall mark, placed third during the OAC regular season and won the OAC Tournament. Now the Yellow Jackets must await a Monday decision by the NCAA Division III National Selection Committee as to whether B-W will be invited to the national tourney.
Highlighting the selections are freshman designated hitter/ pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/ Field) and senior Academic All-American centerfielder Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland). Murray was selected to the All-OAC first-team as a utility player and as its Rookie of the Year. Davis’ second-team All-OAC selection is the third of her outstanding career.
In addition to Murray and Davis, freshmen LF Ashley Elber (Huron/ Edison) and freshman pitcher Justina Wise (New London) joined Davis on the second-team, and freshman shortstop Lauren Feciuch (Kent/ Field) was an honorable mention choice.
Murray, who was unable to play in the OAC Tournament due to an injury, is B-W’s second leading hitter and one of its top pitchers. She has a .404 batting average, with 42 base hits in 104 at-bats, 25 runs scored, a team-high-tying six homeruns and 24 runs batted-in. She also has five doubles and is second on the team with 11 stolen bases. In 18 OAC regular season games, Murray batted .458 with four homeruns, three doubles, 14 RBI and four stolen bases.
On the mound, Murray has a perfect 6-0 record, leads the team with a 1.65 earned run average and has five complete games. In 46.2 innings pitched, she’s allowed 43 hits, 13 runs (11 earned) with 35 strikeouts and just eight walks. During OAC regular season play, she posted a 4-0 mark with a 1.95 ERA and 22 whiffs in 32.1 innings of action. Murray also was named the OAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during the Week of April 18-24

Davis, who was an honorable mention pick a year ago and a first-team selection in 2008, is ending an illustrious career. This season, she is batting .353 (41-for-116) with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, four homers, a team-leading 27 RBI and eight stolen bases in nine attempts. In the 18 OAC regular season games, Davis batted .328 with five doubles, one triple, three homeruns, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored and one stolen base.
For her career, Davis has a .393 batting average (201-for-512) to rank second all-time. She is first all-time with 51 doubles, 512 at-bats and 144 RBI. She also is second all-time with 201 hits and 137 in runs scored, fourth with seven triples, third with 20 homers and 34 steals.
In addition to being an outstanding player, Davis carries a 3.93 grade average in athletic training, was an Academic All-American in 2010 and is currently a candidate this year.
Elber is having an outstanding freshman season as she leads the team in hitting at .425 (51-for-120) with a team-leading 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, a team-high-tying six homers and a .675 slugging average. She also has one triples and five stolen bases. During the 18 OAC regular season contests, Elber batted .444 with four homeruns, three doubles, 11 RBI and two steals.
Wise combines with Murray and junior Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) and senior Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky) to give the Yellow Jackets four solid pitchers. In 21 appearances, Wise has a 15-5 record with a 2.30 ERA and a team-leading 78 strikeouts in a team-leading 112 and two-third innings pitched. She also started a team-high 19 games with 12 complete games and four shutouts. In the 18 OAC regular season games, Wise posted a record of 6-3 and had a 2.96 ERA while allowing 24 earned runs on 64 hits with 37 strikeouts and 10 walks.
Feciuch also is having a solid first collegiate season and is batting .284 (27-for-95) with 16 runs scored, eight doubles, a team-leading three triples, two homers, including the game-winning walkoff roundtripper in the 2011 OAC Championship Game, 19 RBI and three steals. In 18 regular season games, she batted .300 with five doubles, one triple, eight RBI and two stolen bases.
