Baldwin-Wallace’s Davis Named First-Team Academic All-American

Tanya Davis
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior standout centerfielder Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) has been named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American. It is the second straight year that Davis has been tabbed as an Academic All-American. She was a third-team pick a year ago.
Davis is the 77th Yellow Jacket to be chosen as an Academic All-American since the program began in 1972. B-W has more Academic All-Americans than any other Ohio Athletic Conference school and the second most of any small college in the state of Ohio. Davis is the eighth B-W softball student-athlete to be selected, including the third to earn the accolade twice.
This spring, Davis had her fourth straight outstanding season and helped the Yellow Jackets to compile a school-record 28 victories, a 28-11 record, their first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and an appearance in the 2011 NCAA Division III Central Region Tournament.
Davis, who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in pre-physical therapy and athletic training and plans to attend graduate school next fall, was a three-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC selection. She also twice earned NFCA (National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association) Div. III All-Central Region accolades and three times was tabbed to the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District IV teams.
In the classroom, Davis carried an outstanding 3.93 grade point average. Davis is a member of the Dean’s List, Alpha Lambda, Dayton C. Miller and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies. She was tabbed this year as B-W recipient of the OAC’s Female Clyde Lamb Award winner, symbolic of the school’s Most Outstanding Female Student-Athlete. Davis also is a member of COAST, a student athletic training organization and is a Jacket Scholar. She also was honored this spring at B-W’s Academic “Ovations Day” for her excellence off of the field by being named the recipient of the Bonnie Raye Scholar/Athlete Award and the Dr. Robert H. Lechner Memorial Service Award.
At the plate this season, Davis batted .351 (46-for-131) with 31 runs scored, nine doubles, four homers and a team-leading 29 RBI. She also stole 13 bases in 14 attempts, had a .956 fielding average with just two errors in 43 total chances, a .542 slugging and a .393 on-base average.
Davis ends her career as one of the most prolific hitters in Yellow Jacket history as she is ranked at the top of most hitting categories. She finished her career ranked first in career runs scored (140), doubles (51) and RBI (146), is second in hits (206), third in home runs (20), and fourth in stolen bases (39) and is tied for fourth in triples (7). Davis had a .391 career batting average and .976 fielding average.
