Two Baldwin Wallace University Softball Standouts Named to All-OAC Team
BEREA, OHIO -- Two Baldwin Wallace University softball student-athletes, freshman designated player Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and junior first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Senior), have been named to the 2008 All-Ohio Athletic Conference softball team. Davis was a first-team selection and Myor was tabbed to the honorable mention group.
Davis played in all 40 games this season and hit a team-leading .421 overall (56-of-133). She also led the team in runs scored with 42, base hits with 56, doubles with 17, slugging average at .714 and on-base percentage at .477, tied for the team-lead in triples with two and was second in homeruns with six, runs batted-in with 39 and stolen bases with nine.
“Tanya had an outstanding freshman season and was a huge addition to our offensive attack,” said Head Coach Tom Spencer. “She is a talented young woman with unlimited ability. We look forward to having her in the Brown & Gold of Baldwin Wallace University for the next three seasons.”
Myor hit .286 overall (38-of-133) and was one of the top power hitters in Division III
this spring. Of her 38 hits, 21 were for extra bases, including nine doubles and an OAC-leading and BW single-season school-record 12 homeruns. Myor also set a BW single-season mark with 46 RBI. She also scored 33 runs to rank second as was her .624 slugging average.
“Caitlin has established herself as one of the top power hitters in the OAC and Division III,” said Spencer. “This was her third straight solid season as a starter. She also will be a key returning member of our offense next spring.”
The Yellow Jacket women won their final three games of the season and finished the campaign with a 17-23 overall record in Spencer’s first year back as head coach. He also was the head coach at BW for three seasons (2000-2002) and has won 87 games overall now, including a school-record 28 in 2002. After stints at NCAA Division I Butler (Ind.) University and Notre Dame College (Ohio), he returned to Berea this spring.
