BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College junior catcher Shea Monschein (Welllington) has been named to the 2008 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honor squad by the conference’s 10 faculty athletic representatives.

To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and be a key player in at least her second year of participation in the sport. Monschein has done that and much, much more for the Yellow Jackets.

Monschein earned the honor for the second straight season as she was a honorable mention selection in 2007.  The political science major who carries a 3.79 grade average batted .213 this season with 23 base hits in 108 at-bats also scored 10 runs and had four doubles, two homeruns and 14 runs batted-in. In addition, Monschein is a member of both the Dean’s List and the Alpha Lambda Honor Society.

In three season at B-W, Monschein has compiled a .228 career battting average (61-of-267) with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, three homeruns and 30 RBI.  An outstanding defensive player, she has a .983 career fielding percentage with 276 putouts.

“We are extremely proud of Shea,” said Head Coach Tom Spencer, who returned to B-W this spring. “She is an outstanding young lady who embodies the philosophy of Division III athletics by excelling both in the classroom and on the field.

“Shea also is a leader both on campus, in the classroom and on our softball team,” continued Spencer, who won his 200th career game this spring and has won 87 games in four seasons overall at B-W (he also coached softball from 2000-2002). “We appreciate Shea’s excellence in all areas and look forward to having her back for her final season of softball in 2008-2008.”
