BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track and field team took first place out of eight schools at the Wilmington College Invitational and the men's team placed fourth out of eight schools.
Leading the women's team to their victory were three first place winners, senior Mandy Quisno (Oak Harbor), junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) and sophomore Theresa Carona (Canton/ Massillon Perry). Quisno posted a season-best mark in the shot put of 38-feet and 2.75-inches to win the event and also place second in the discus throw with a mark of 115'6". Cathcart tied for first place in the high jump with a season-best mark of 5'2.25" and place third in the triple jump with a mark of 32'9.50". Carona won the javelin with a mark of 116'11", in addition to placing fifth in the hammer throw (102'7") and the discus (106'8"). Junior Courtney Beckett (Monaca, Pa./ Howell) place second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 34'1.5". Sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.90 seconds. Freshman Jennifer Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) placed second in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 10'6", third in the discus with a throw of 112'4" and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles also in a season-best time of 16.43 seconds. Freshman Marina Ortiz (Tucson, Ariz./ Salpointe Catholic) placed second in the javelin with a season-best throw of 111'8". The 4x400-meter relay team placed second in a season-best time of 4:04.88.
Leading the men's team was sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon) with a win in the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 54.79 seconds. The other first place finisher on the men's side was the 4x400-meter relay team in a season-best time of 3:26.39. Freshman Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) placed second in the discus with a season-best mark of 144'6" and third in the shot put with a throw of 45'1.75". Freshmen Brandon Fast (Ashland/ Senior) and Steve Price (North Olmsted) both placed second in their events. Fast in the javelin with a mark of 149'2" and Price in the high jump with a mark of 6'2".
The Yellow Jackets will return home next Saturday (April 29) to host the annual Sparky Adam's Invitational at the George Finnie Stadium, meet begins at 9:00 a.m.
