BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track team finished second and the men's team finished sixth at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by B-W at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
The Yellow Jacket women scored 129.5 points and finished second behind Otterbein College, who finished with 177 points. The B-W men finished in sixth place with 49 points. Mount Union College won the men's title with 198.5 points.
The Yellow Jacket women won three individual titles. Junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/Senior) won the high jump with a jump of 5'1.25". Sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) captured the 1,500-mete run with a time of 4:40.3. Junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/Firelands) won the javelin throw with a toss of 117'8".
In addition to the three titles the Yellow Jacket women earned seven additional All-OAC (top-three performers in each event) honors with second and third place finishes. Finishing second was, Paulsen in the 100-meter hurdles (15.0), sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) in the 400-meter dash (58.27), sophomore Theresa Carona (Canton/Massillon Perry) in the javelin throw (115'9") and the 4x800-meter relay team of senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/Madison), senior Kelly Staruch (Hinckley Highland), freshman Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/Glandorf) and Scullion with a time of 9:22.95. Finishing third was, freshman Jen Miller (Gnadenhutten/Indian Valley) in the pole vault (10'), senior Mandy Quisno (Oak Harbor) in the discus throw (120'6") and freshman Marina Ortiz (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) in the javelin throw (115'9")
Three Yellow Jacket men earned All-OAC honors as senior Steve Johnson (Canton/Central Cathlic) won the pole vault with a height of 14'9", freshman Steven Price (North Olmsted) finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 44'9.5" and freshman Brandon Fast (Ashland/Senior) finished second in the javelin throw with a toss of 159'10".
B-W is back in action Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18, 2007 when they travel to the North Central (Ill.) College "Last Chance" Meet in Naperville, Ill.
