BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed for for the first time up north at the Muskingum College Invitational, where the women's team placed second out of 12 schools and the men's team placed fifth out of 14schools.
Leading the way for the women's team was first place winners sophomores Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood), Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) and Theresa Carona (Canton/ Massillon Perry). Scullion won both the 800-meter run and 1500-meter run in times of 2:18.28 and 4:43.36, respectively. Paul won the 400-meter dash in a time of 59.02 seconds and placed third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.14 seconds. Carona won the javelin throw with a mark of 101-feet, 11-inches. Other top placers for the women's team included senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) with a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.99, senior Mandy Quisno (Oak Harbor) placed second in the javelin throw and fourth in the discus with marks of 91-feet, 11-inches and 121-feet, 10 inches, respectively, freshman Jennifer Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) tied for third place in the pole vault with a mark of 9-feet even, junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) tied for fourth place in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet even and junior Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.01 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team placed second in a combined effort from Paul, Knotts, senior Kim Johnson (Athens/ Senior) and junior Courtney Smith (Mayfield) in a time of 4:10.00.
For the men's team, senior Steve Johnson (Canton/ Central Catholic) placed first in the pole vault with a height of 14-feet even and fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 140-feet, 9-inches. Other top placers for the Yellow Jackets included sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon) with a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.47 seconds, freshman Justin Tuckosh (Brook Park/ Midpark) placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:07.83, freshman Steve Price (North Olmsted) placed third in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet, 2-inches and freshman Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 46-feet, 8.75-inches. The 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth in a combined effort of Kidon, junior Aaron Apathy (Parma/ Padua), freshman Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior) and freshman Mike Kowall (Parma/ Senior) in a time of 3:31.24.
The Yellow Jacket men's and women's track teams will resume competition next weekend when they travel to Marietta to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet - East on Saturday, March 31 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
