Invitational Meet in New Concord
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams ran for the first time up north after a two-week break due to inclement weather. The men were sixth and the women eighth at the 2004 Muskingum College Invitational Meet in New Concord.
Highlighting the day for B-W were three individual champions, including senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) who won titles in both the shot put and discus. The other two individual champions were senior Jason Ream (Burton/ Berkshire) and freshman Kim Johnson (Athens Senior).
Alex Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 50-feet and 10 and three-quarters inches and won the discus with a toss of 148'1". Two weeks ago, Johnson placed 10th at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Meet in the shot. Last spring, he was 14th at the national outdoor meet in the discus.
Ream won his second consecutive meet title in the steeplechase. He won at Muskingum with a time of 10:01.02, and he won two weeks ago at the Disney Relay Meet on B-W's annual spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. Kim Johnson, who recently finished her season with the 23-4 Yellow Jacket women's basketball team, won the high jump with a leap of 5'2". It was her first collegiate track meet.
The Yellow Jacket men and women will be back in action on Saturday, April 3 when they travel to Alliance to participate in the OAC Northern Tri-Meet with Mt. Union College and Ohio Northern University at 11:00 a.m.
