Ohio Wesleyan Marv Frye Invitational Meet
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track and field team finished third of 16 teams and the men were sixth of 16 schools at the annual Marv Frye Memorial Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio (Friday, April 8, 2005).
The Yellow Jacket women had two individual champions and the men had one.
The women were led by individual winners in senior Lisa Bartkiewicz (Berea) in the 5,000 meter run, and freshman high jumper Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior). Bartkiewicz won the 5,000 in a time of 18:21.08 and also finished fifth in the 1500 meter run in 5:00.5. Cathcart won the high jump with a leap of five-feet and one and three-quarters inches.
In addition to the women's champions, sophomore Megan Via (Brookville) placed fifth to Bartkiewicz in the 5,000 meters at 18:48.17 and in fourth place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:59.09. Sophomore All-American Kara Weaver (Myrtle Creek, Oregon/ South Umpqua) was third in the long jump with a leap of 17' 4.75", junior Megan McDannel (Berea) was fourth in the discus with a throw of 131' 1" and junior Amy Mauceri (Solon) was fourth with a throw of 127'9". Also, the 4 x 100 meter relay squad of Weaver, junior Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West), senior Jayna Rasmussen (Westlkake/ Lutheran West) and junior Liz Redd (North Canton/ GlenOak) were third with an NCAA Division III National Meet provisional qualifying time of 48.78 seconds.
For the men, freshman Jim Roy (West Simsbury, Connecticut/ Simsbury) and senior weights specialist Jon Shoffstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) led the way. Roy won the javelin with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 188' 8" and was the lone Yellow Jacket male champion. Shoffstall was second in the hammer throw with a provisional qualifying throw of 165' 4", third in the discus at 141' 9" and fifth in the shot put with a toss of 46'11". In addition, senior Eric Schmuhl (Medina/ Senior) was third in the 400 meter hurdles in 56.70 seconds and junior Mark Miracola (Olmsted Falls) was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43' 6.5".
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Saturday, April 16 when they travel back to Delaware and Ohio Wesleyan where they will compete at the annual Division III All-Ohio Track & Field Championship Meet. Activity is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
