Baldwin-Wallace Women's Track Team Finishes Third and the Men Fifth at the Marv Frye Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track team placed third out of eight schools and the men's team placed fifth out of eight schools at the Marv Frye Invitational Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Despite the bitter cold, the Yellow Jackets men's and women's teams came away with some season-best individual performances.

Overall on the women's side a total of eight season-best marks were posted. Leading the way was junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) with a provisionally qualifying 2007 NCAA National Championship Meet time of 14.99 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. In addition Paulsen also won the long jump with a mark of 15-feet, 7-inches and was a member of the second place 4x100-meter relay team. Sophomores Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) and Theresa Carona (Canton/ Massillon Perry) each won an event. Scullion won the 5000-meter run in a time of 17:43.77, just 0.77 seconds off the provisional standard for the National Championship Meet, and Carona won the javelin throw with a mark of 110' 4". Placing third for the Yellow Jackets included senior Megan Via (Brookville) in the 1500-meter run (15:01.94), senior Mandy Quisno (Oak Harbor) in the shot put (37' 1.75") and junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) in the long jump (14' 11.25"). Both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams placed second. Joining Paulsen on the 4x100-meter relay team to run a time of 51.58 seconds was sophomore Jordan Hill (Carrollton), junior Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) and freshman Jaclyn Muenchow (Worthington/ Kilbourne). The 4x400-meter relay team consisted of seniors Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) and Kim Johnson (Athens), junior Courtney Smith (Mayfield) and sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), who ran a combined time of 4:15.50.

For the men, seven individuals posted season-best marks. Leading the men's team was sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon) with the sole first place victory for B-W. Kidon placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.45 seconds. Showing a strong performance overall was freshman Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) with a second place in the discus throw (139' 7"), a third place finish in the shot put (46' 6.75") and a third place finish in the hammer throw (121' 2"). Placing second ahead of Patrick in the hammer throw was senior Chris Aurand (Hudson/ Senior) with a throw of 138' 9". Aurand also place fourth in the discus (135' 11"). On the track, in the 3000-meter steeplechase senior John Townsend (Chardon) placed third (10:38.15) and sophomore John Rudy (Parma/ Senior) placed fifth (10:48.29) and in the 1500-meter run sophomore Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross) placed third (4:11.73). B-W placed third in the 4x400-meter relay running a time of 3:41.93, in a combined effort of sophomore Mike Kowal (Parma/ Senior), freshman Ryan D'Arcy (Clayton/ Northmont), freshman Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior) and Kidon.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Saturday, April 14 when they travel back to Delaware for the annual Division III All-Ohio Championship Meet. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
