Baldwin-Wallace Women Finish Second and Men Fourth at OAC Championship Meet

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s track and field team finished in second place and the men’s team was fourth at the 2008 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet today (Saturday April 26) at Wilmington College.
 
The women’s team scored 162.5 points and finished behind first place Otterbein College.  The men’s team had 83 points.
 
For the women, highlighting the day was the performance of junior distance specialist Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) as she was a champion in both the 1500-meter run (4:45.72) and 5000-meter run (18:21.56).  For her efforts, Scullion was named the Dave Lehman Female Distance Runner of the Meet. She also won the OAC Indoor Track Championship Meet Julie Zajac Distance Runner of the Meet award.
 
In addition, senior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) was the individual champion in the 100-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.96 seconds. Freshman Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) recorded two second place finishes as she was in the 1500-meter run (4:48.00) and the 800-meter run (2:20.32).  Junior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) earned All-OAC honors with a second place finish in the 400-meter dash (58.53 seconds) and senior Courtney Beckett (Monaca, Pa./ Hopewell) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-feet and three-quarter inches.     
 
For the men, five athletes earned All-OAC honors (top three finishers in each event).  Junior Derek Hill (Fremont/ Ross) won an individual title in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:11.49. In the triple jump, sophomore Steve Price (North Olmsted) was second with a leap of 43’9.25” and sophomore Jon Hudson (Shaker Heights) was third with a leap of 42’11.50”. In the hammer throw, freshman Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) placed third with a throw of 146’5”. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Jimmy Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) was third with a time of 9:45.65. 
 
The B-W men’s and women’s track field teams will be back in action next Friday, (May 2, 2008), when they travel to Toledo, Ohio to participate in the University of Toledo Rocket Invitational.  Events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
