Baldwin-Wallace Women Win Division III All-Ohio Championship; Men Place Fifth

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s track and field team finished first, while the men placed fifth at the Division III All-Ohio Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University. The B-W women placed first out of 19 teams with 120.5 points, just 2.5 ahead of second place Ohio Wesleyan.  The men scored  54 points to take fifth place, as Ohio Wesleyan won the men’s title with 103.5 points.

The women’s team had three individual champions. Senior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/Firelands) won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.05 seconds, junior Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) won the 1500-meter run in 4:44.46 and junior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.22. Also earning All-Ohio status for the women were freshman Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) who was second in the 1500-meter run (4:44.54), Scullion with a second place finish in the 5000-meter run (17:52.34), senior Courtney Beckett (Monaca, Pa./Hopewell) with a second in the triple jump (35’6.50”), Paul with a third place in the 200-meter dash (26.25), senior Magen Maleski (West Alexandria/Twin Valley) with a third in the pole vault (10’2”), junior Theresa Carona (Canton/Massillon Perry) with a third in the javelin (110’0”) and Paulsen with a fourth in the high jump (5’0.25”) and javelin (107’11”).   Also, the 4x400 meter relay team was third (4:05.20) and the 4x100 meter relay team placed fourth (51.06).    

For the men, four athletes earned individual All-Ohio honors.  Junior Nate Bowen (Fremont/Ross) placed third in the 1500-meter run (4:02.35), junior Derek Hill (Fremont/Ross) placed third in the 5000-meter run (15:21.91), sophomore Steve Price (North Olmsted) placed fourth in the high jump (5’11”), freshman Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/Watkins Memorial) placed fourth in both the discus (142’2”) and hammer (144’5”).  In addition, the 4x100 relay team placed third (43.24).

The Yellow Jacket men and women will next compete on Saturday, April 19 when B-W hosts the annual Paul “Sparky” Adams Meet at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  Events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
