East Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's track and field team placed first and the men's team placed fifth at the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference Split meet hosted by Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
Sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) lead the women's team with a school-record breaking and provisional qualifying national championship meet win in the 1500-meter run in addition to a second individual win in the 800-meter run. Scullion broke the old school-record, held by Lisa Winans, by 4.21 seconds to run a 4:38.09 in the 1500-meter run, which also provisionally qualified her for her for the national championship meet by 2.11 seconds, and won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:148.86. Also earning individual wins were sophomores Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes with times of 26.51 and 58.73 seconds, respectively, and Theresa Carona (Canton/ Massillon Perry) with a throw of 107-feet, 3-inches in the javelin. B-W also won both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x100-meter relay team included Paul, sophomore Jordan Hill (Carrollton), junior Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) and freshman Jaclyn Muenchow (Worthington/ Kilbourne) and ran a time of 50.95, while the 4x400-meter relay team included senior Kim Johnson (Athens), junior Courtney Smith (Mayfield), senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) and Paul and ran a time of 4:06.78.
On the men's side senior Chris Aurand (Hudson/ Senior) led the team with a win in the hammer throw with a mark of 141-feet, 2-inches. Other top performers include freshman James Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) with a second place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:17.58, freshman Jayson Hedberg (Sandusky Perkins) with a third place finish in the 200-meter dash and a fifth place finish in the 100-meter dash in times of 23.09 and 11.55 seconds, respectively, sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon) with a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.00 seconds, senior Bobby Phillips (Akron/ Manchester) with a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:29.21 and the 4x400-meter relay team, which finished in fourth place with a time of 3:31.71 in a combined effort from Kidon, freshman Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior), sophomore Mike Kowal (Parma/ Senior) and freshman Greg Ackley (Ashtabula/ Lakeside).
The Yellow Jackets track and field teams will continue their season next Friday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University to compete in the Marv Frye Invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
