BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) and junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/Firelands) both competed on day one of the 2007 NCAA Division III National Track and Field Championship Meet today (May 24,2007) at the University of Wisconisn-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Scullion finished 16th of 18 runners in the 1,500-meter run preliminaries with a time of 4:50.72 and failed to qualify for the finals on Saturday. Paulsen is 12th place after the first day and four of the seven events of the heptathlon with 2,743 points. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 14.77 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 26.96 seconds (.03 off of a career-best), had a height of five-feet and one-quarter inch in the hight jump and a career-best throw of 31'4" in the shot put. Her 2,743 points are 89 points shy of seventh place and 75 points back of eighth place and NCAA Division III All-American status.
Tomorrow, Paulsen will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon (long jump, javelin and 800-meter run) starting at 3:00 EST.
