Paulsen Provisionally Qualifies for the National Championship Meet in the

Heptathlon at the 2007 ASICS Collegiate Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- Junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) provisionally qualified for the national championship meet in the heptathlon at the 2007 ASICS Collegiate Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Paulsen finished in second place with a point total of 4368, earning marks of 15.22 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, 5-feet, 0.5 inches in the high jump, 31-feet in the shot put, 27.03 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 16-feet, 2.75-inches in the long jump, 112-feet, 7-inches in the javelin, and 2:39.52 in the 800-meter run. Also competing in the heptathlon was junior Magen Maleski (West Alexandria/ Twin Valley) and freshman Jennifer Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley). Maleski finished in seventh place with a point total of 3322 earning marks of 16.82 in the 100-meter hurdles, 4' 6.75" in the high jump, 27' 10.75" in the shot put, 28.01 in the 200-meter dash, 15' 4.5" in the long jump, 81' 10.5" in the javelin and 3:09.52 in the 800-meter run. Miller finished ninth with 3168 points and marks of 17.36 in the 100-meter hurdles, 4' 3.25" in the high jump, 31' 6.5" in the shot put, 29.02 in the 200-meter dash, 14' 4" in the long jump, 73' 7.75" in the javelin and 2:54.75 in the 800-meter run. Freshman Kareem Ibrahim (North Olmsted) competed in the decathlon and finished seventh with a point total of 3971 and individual event marks of 12.03 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 19' in the long jump, 24' 0.25" in the shot put, 5' 4.25" in the high jump, 57.41 seconds in the 400-meter dash, 21.64 in the 110-meter hurdles, 58' 3" in the discus, 8' in the pole vault, and 104' 7" in the javelin and 5:20.36 in the 1500-meter run.

Senior Steve Johnson (Canton/ Central Catholic) also competed at the meet in the pole vault and javelin. Johnson finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 14' and seventh in the javelin with a throw of 135' 5".

The Yellow Jackets track and field teams will continue their season next Friday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University to compete in the Marv Frye Invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
