BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men finished second of 12 teams and the women were third of nine schools at the annual Wilmington College Invitational Meet in Wilmington, Ohio. Highlighting the action were five Yellow Jacket individual champions.
The Yellow Jacket champions were senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls), senior Jon Shoffstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake), junior hurdler Eric Schmuhl (Medina Senior) and senior Bob Magyar (Lyndhurst/ Brush) for the men, and freshman Rihanna Knotts (Middletown Madison) for the women.
Johnson won the shot put with a throw of 52'6" and placed second in the discus with a throw of 144' 11". Shoffstall won the hammer with a throw of 156' 7", was second in the shot put with a throw of 48'4" and was third in the discus with a throw of 141'9". Schmuhl won the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.24 seconds and placed second in the 400 hurdles in 55.46 seconds. Magyar won the 5000 meter run in 15:59.33 overall. Knotts won the 800 meter run in 2:22.05. In addition, the 400 meter relay team of senior Barbie Yeazell (Enon/ Grenon), Liz Redd (Canton/ GlenOak), junior Jayna Rasmussen (Westlake/ Lutheran West) and sophomore Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West) placed second in 49.77 seconds, freshman Megan Via (Brookville) was second in the 1500 meter run in 4:57.33 and freshman Pixie Damas (Cleveland/ Parma Padua) was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.55.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Sunday, May 2 when they compete at the annual B-W Invitational Meet at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. and running events are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
