The Baldwin-Wallace College track teams competed at an unscored meet at

Westminster (Pa.) last Saturday

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams participated in the unscored Westminster Meet last Saturday (May 8) in Westminster, Pennsylvania. It was the final regular season meet before B-W travels next weekend (May 14-15) to Tiffin, Ohio to compete at the 2004 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Heidelberg College.

At Westminster, the Yellow Jacket men’s winners included senior Brian Adkins (Berea) in the 1600 meter run (4:10.65), senior Scott Roberts (Sandusly Perkins) in the 400 meter dash (50.87), junior Eric Schmuhl (Medina Senior) in the 400 meter hirdles (53.53), senior Jason Ream (Burton/ Berkshire) in the 5000 meter run (16:24.53) and senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) in the shot put (50' 5.25"). Johnson was also second in the discus with a better NCAA Div. III qualifying throw of 158' 2".

The Yellow Jacket women’s winners included senior Stacy Havaich (Austintown Fitch) in the 1600 meter run (4:49.04), sophomore Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West) in the 100 meter dash (12.96) and 200 meter dash (26.71), senior Tatum Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley) in the 10,000 meter run (47:11), freshman Lisa Morgan (Oak Harbor) in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.57) and freshman Megan Via (Brookville) in the 5000 meter run (19:01.33).

In addition, three Yellow Jacket relay teams also claimed victory. The women’s 400 meter relay team of junior Jayna Rasmussen (Westlake/ Lutheran West), sophomore Liz Redd (Canton GlenOak), junior Rhiannon Regal (Painesville Harvey) and Griglak won in 50.87 seconds. The women's 1600 meter relay team of freshman Pixie Damas (Cleveland/ Parma Padua), Griglak, freshman Rihana Knotts (Middletown Madison) and Havaich won with a time of 4:07.30. The men's 1600 meter relay team of Schmuhl, junior Ian Gibson (Painesville Harvey), Roberts and freshman Sean Johnson (Alliance/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas) won in 3:28.11 overall.

To date, three Yellow Jackets are qualified for the 2004 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Millikin (Ill.) University on May 27-29. They are Alex Johnson in the shot put (52' 11.75") and discus (158'2"), senior Jon Shoffstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) in the discus (156'5") and hammer (169'0") and senior Jen Southall (Willoughby South) in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:07.19).

Following the OAC Championship Meet at Heidelberg, B-W will host its annual Twilight Invitational meets, including the annual Heptathlon-Decathlon Meet on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 18-19, and the annual Twilight Invitational Meet on Friday, May 21. Both events will be hosted at The George Finnie Stadium.
