BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men and women competed today (Friday, April 9) at the Marv Frye Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational Meet in Delaware, Ohio. The Yellow Jacket women finished second and the men were fourth.
Individually for the women's team, senior Stacey Havaich (Austintown/ Fitch) won the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:49.58. Fellow senior, Jen Southall (Willoughby/ South) placed second in both the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 800-meter run with times of 11:07.03 and 2:26.24, respectively. Freshman Megan Via (Brookville) posted a time of 18:54.32 in the 5000-meter run to finish second. Sophomore Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West) finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.78. Rounding out the top women's performers, the B-W 4x100-meter relay team placed third with a time of 50.61. Team members include senior Barbie Yeazell (Enon/ Greenon), sophomore Elizabeth Redd (North Canton/ Glen Oak), junior Jayna Rasmussen (Westlake/ Lutheran West) and Griglak.
For the men, senior Alex Johnson (Olmsted Falls) won the shot put with a throw of 50' 10.00" and he also finished first in the discus with a throw of 153' 0" followed by fellow teammate, senior Jon Shoffstall (Lakeville/ Indian Lake) who placed second with a distance of 149' 8". Shoffstall posted a distance of 169' 0" in the hammer throw to take top honors. Junior Brian Dotson (Painesville/ Harvey) rounds out the top performers for the men with a second place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:46.29.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 16-17 when they travel back to Columbus for the annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championsup Meet. On Friday, B-W travels to Westerville and Otterbein College for the first day and then back to Delaware, Ohio for the second day of competition.
