Unscored B-W Invitational Meet in Berea (May 2)
BEREA, OHIO -- Five Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's outdoor track and field student-athletes won individual titles today (Sunday, May 2) as the Yellow Jackets competed today at the annual unscored B-W Invitational Meet aThe George Finnie Stadium. The meet was hampered by both wet and cold conitions.
Despite the conditions, sophomore Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West) highlighted the meet for B-W as she won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Griglak won the 100 meters in 12.91 seconds and the 200 meters in 26.54 seconds. Other individual winners include junior Ian Gibson (Painesville/ Harvey) in the men's long jump, junior Jamie Luketic (Rootstown) in the 10,000 meter run and freshman Stephanie Damas (Cleveland/ Parma Padua Fransiscan) in the women's 400 meter dash. Gibson won the long jump with a leap of 19'5". He was also third in the 100 meter dash and fifth in the 200 meters. Luketic won the 10,000 meters in 41:10.1 and Damas won the 400 meter dash in 1:00.94.
In addition, senior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) placed second in the discus with a season-best and NCAA Division III national qualifying throw of 156'11". He was also third in the shot put with a toss of 48' 11.75". Also, senior Scott Roberts (Sandusly Perkins) was second in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.27 seconds, sophomore Sarah Speece (North Jackson/ Western Reserve) was second in the women's javelin with a throw of 88' 4.5", senior Amren Fraser (Brook Park/ Midpark) was second in the high jump at 5'0", junior Brian Dotson (Painesville Harvey) was second in the men's 10,000 meter run in 33:19.0 and senior Jon Shoffstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) was second in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 150'7",
The Yellow Jackets will be idle next weekend and then prepare to travel to Tiffin on May 14-15 for the annual Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Heidelberg College.
