BEREA, OHIO – Six members of the Baldwin-Wallace College cross country and track and field teams have been selected  to the 2010-11 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Five Yellow Jacket women were honored with four repeat selections in seniors Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum), Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan), Karin Coyne (Columbia Station/Columbia), and Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley). Junior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./Monaca Center) was selected for the first time as she was on honorable mention.   For the men, senior Jeff Bonezzi (Medina) was named to the team for the first time.  


Chinn graduated this spring Magna Cum Laude with a degree in mass communications and carried a 3.786 GPA.  She is a Dean’s List Student, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and is a Jacket Scholar.  Chinn was recognized with the Outstanding Senior Woman Athlete Award as well as the Outstanding Senior Award for the class of 2011.


Chinn is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of B-W having competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.  She was named as the OAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for her effort (of 195 runners) at the Calvin (Mich.) College Knight Invitational Meet on Sept. 18.  Chinn earned All-OAC honors with a second place finish at the OAC Championships with a time of 22:05. She went on to finish in 13th (of 279 total runners) setting a school-record time of 21:31 overall at the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet and became the first Yellow Jacket woman to earn a Division III All-American honor in cross country.   Chinn earned the Ohio Athletic Conference Runner of the Week on September 20, 2010 for her third place finish (of 195 total runners) at the Calvin College (Mich.) Knight Invitational and earned All-Ohio honors with a 6th place finish at the All-Ohio Meet on Oct. 1 at Cedarville.


During her indoor track season, Chinn earned OAC Runner of the Week honors on January 31 for her efforts in leading B-W to the OAC Relay Meet title on Jan. 29 where she won the 3,000-meter run and anchored the winning 4x800-meter relay and second place distance medley relay teams. At the 2011 OAC Championship Meet, she led the Yellow Jackets to the team title and won the 1000-meter run, mile run and anchored the winning Distance Medley Relay team. For her efforts, Chinn was named as the Julie Zajac OAC Track Athlete of the Year. She also set the school-record in the 1000-meter run in 3:02.52 at the OAC Meet and reset her own school-record in the indoor mile with a time of 4:58.79 at the University of Mount Union “Last Chance” Meet on March 5 in Alliance. At the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, Chinn placed sixth with a time of (5:00.77) earning herself an All-American spot.


During her outdoor season, Chinn was named as the Dave Lehman OAC Women’s Distance Runner of the Year for the second straight year. She earned All-OAC honors in the 800-meter run (first), 3000-meter steeplechase (first), 5000-meter run (first) and as a member of the winning 4x800-meter relay team. Chinn is automatically qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet in the 3, 000 steeplechase and provisionally qualified in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.  


Kovach graduated this spring Magna Cum Laude with a degree in chemistry and pre-med and is a Dean’s List student with a 3.870 GPA. She is a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and is a Jacket Scholar.  Last year, Kovach was named to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV honor squad.  In cross country, she ran her best time of the season at the Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Meet finishing 27th of 74 total runners with a time of (16:27.62).  In track, Kovach did not participate in the indoor season due to injury, but was able to come back for the outdoor season and was a member of the OAC champion 4x800 meter relay team which earned her All-OAC honors.


Coyne graduated this spring Cum Laude with a degree in pre-physical therapy and exercise science with a 3.722 GPA. She is a Dean’s List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Societies. In cross country, Coyne earned second-team All-OAC honors with a 12th place finish at the OAC Championships finishing in a time of 23:08.  She went on to place 109th in a time of 24:15.9 at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship Meet ending her accomplished career as a Yellow Jacket.  


Oliver graduated this spring with a degree in Chemistry and carried a 3.425 GPA.  She is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society as well as the American Chemical Society.  During the indoor track season, Oliver was selected as the OAC Track Athlete of the Week on February 21, 2011 for her efforts as she won the Ohio Wesleyan University Pentathlon.  She also became the first athlete in school history to earn All-American status in the pentathlon (five events) after finishing third at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet.  During the outdoor season, Oliver placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and placed fourth in the long jump at the OAC Championships to earn All-OAC honors in all three events.  She also scored a career-best 4,487 points in the seven-event heptathlon at the Wake Forest University Combined Meet which qualified her provisionally for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet.


Patterson is a marketing and public relations double major who carries a 3.987 GPA.  She is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society and a Jacket Scholar.  Patterson was honored with the Baldwin-Wallace College junior Academic Excellence Award this past spring for her efforts in the classroom.  In cross country, she posted her best finish at the Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Meet where she finished 38th in a time of 16:49.46.  Patterson also placed 52nd at the OAC Championship Meet with a time of 24:56.  During the indoor track season, she had a season-best in the 3000-meter run at the Mount Union College Jim Wuske Invitational in a time of 11:29.14.  During the outdoor season, Patterson posted season-bests in the 5000-meter run at the Marv Frye Invitational in a time of 19:48.62 and in the 10,000-meter run at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational in 40:54.32.  

Bonezzi graduated this spring Cum Laude with a degree in physical education and carried a 3.716 grade point average.  He was a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams and returned to the men’s soccer team for his second and final season.  In soccer, Bonezzi has appeared in 43 matches with four goals and five assists for 13 points. He tallied a career-best three goals this season and a career-high three assists a year ago.  In cross country and track, Bonezzi was one of the top runners and earned All-OAC accolades in track in the 800-meter run.  He is a Dean’s List student, a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society, received the Dave & June Demmerle Scholarship and was honored with the Jerry Zemelka Yellow Jacket Award.
