B-W’s Kim Chinn and Mitch Supan Named OAC Track Athletes of the of the Week

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin-Wallace College senior three-time Division III All-American runner Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) and Division III All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) are this week’s (April 4, 2011) Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Track Runner of the Week and Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, respectively for their efforts last week.
Chinn earned her award for leading the Yellow Jacket women to the team title at last Saturday’s (April 2) five-team OAC East Meet at the University of Mount Union. She won the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs season-best times of 2:22.69 and 4:44.90, respectively. Chinn also combined with sophomore Lauren McGaughey (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), sophomore Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/South) and senior Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) to win the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 10:00.81.
Chinn has already earned NCAA Division III All-American honors in cross country with a 13th at the 2010 national meet, in indoor track with a sixth place finish in the mile run this winter and in outdoor track as the Division III national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last spring. She is currently qualified for this spring’s NCAA meet in the 5,000-meter run. This award marks the sixth time during her career that she was earned OAC Runner of the Week accolades.
Supan earned his honor for winning the shot put (51-feet and 4.25-inches), discus (166’5”) and hammer (176’2”) throws and leading the men to a second place finish at the OAC East Meet. All three of Supan’s winning throws were NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks.
Last spring, Supan earned Division III All-America honors in the discus with an eighth place finish at last spring’s NCAA Meet that was held at B-W. This is his second career OAC Field Athlete of the Week award.
The Yellow Jacket men and women are back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to participate at the Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Meet. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m.
