Hlavin and Patrick Named Outstanding Senior Athletes at Baldwin-Wallace College

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College cross country and track & field student-athletes D’Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve) have been named as the College’s 2009-10 Outstanding Senior Athletes.
Hlavin is the Outstanding Senior Woman Athlete and Patrick is the Kenneth F. Steingass Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.
As a senior, Hlavin helped lead the women’s cross country team to an Ohio Athletic Conference title and a berth to the NCAA Division III Championship Meet. She placed third during the OAC Championships, 16th during the All-Great Lakes Region Meet and 134th at the Div. III National Championship Meet. In addition, she was tabbed as an OAC Runner of the Week honoree.
During the indoor track season, Hlavin was named the Julie Zajac Co-Most Outstanding Distance Athlete at the OAC Championship Meet. She was the OAC champion in the 1-mile run, placed second in the 800-meter run, seventh in the 5,000-meters and ran on the champion distance medley relay team.

In outdoor track this season, Hlavin has provisionally qualified in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet that will be hosted by B-W from May 27-29.
Overall, Hlavin’s is one of the most celebrated women’s cross country and track student-athletes in school history. She is a three-time All-OAC honoree in cross country, including being the OAC Runner of the Year in 2008-09, twice earning All-Great Lakes Region honors and twice ran at the national meet. In track, she is a multiple All-Ohio and OAC champion.
Academically, Hlavin graduated last week Magna Cum Laude with a degree in sports medicine and pre-physical therapy and carried a 3.694 grade average. The Dean’s List student who is a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies was an Academic All-OAC and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV selection in 2008-09 and is a candidate for both honors again this year.
Patrick has turned in one of the most accomplished seasons by any thrower in school history. During the 2010 indoor season, he earned the second All-American honor of his career with a third-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Championship meet.
Prior to nationals, Patrick won the OAC Championship in the shot put with a school-record throw of 54 feet, six and three-quarter inches. He also placed second in the weight throw and was named the OAC’s Bud Yost Most Outstanding Field Athlete. Patrick also teamed with junior Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) to set OAC Relay Meet records in the weight throw relay (108’7”) and shot put relay (101’4”) in February.
During the current outdoor season, Patrick won the OAC Championship in the shot put and has broken his own school-record in the event with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 55’10.5.”
Last outdoor season, Patrick placed eighth in the shot put at nationals to become the first male in school history to earn All-American honors in the outdoor shot put. Prior to the meet, he was named as the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.
