University, 8-1, this evening (Tuesday, March 5, 2012) on the third day of its Annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The victory kept the Yellow Jackets unbeaten this season.  Earlier today, BW beat NCAA Division II power Walsh (Ohio) University, 6-3.

With its victory, BW is now 13-0 this season, including a 5-0 record down south, a 2-0 record last fall and a 6-0 slate during the winter portion of its schedule. Trine is now 5-1 overall.

BW gained a 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and captured five of the six singles matches to stretch its winning ways to 13 straight.

In singles play, senior No.1 player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won by the scores of 6-3 and 7-5, junior No.2 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1, senior No.4 player

He is now 56-11 overall and is 14th all-time as he surpassed former OAC Player of the Year and Academic All-American Bryan Barunek (1999-2002) and Jason Griest (1994-97), who each had 55 wins.  Horvath also has one more year of eligibility remaining

The victory against Walsh gives BW veteran Head Coach and former Academic All-American Brian Rector 398 career wins and runs his career record to an amazing 398-83 in 23 seasons.  Rector is the winningest tennis coach in Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio collegiate tennis history.

The Yellow Jackets play their final match of the trip against 2011 NCAA Division III National Tournament participant Elizabethtown (Pa.) College at 12:30 p.m.  Then, if BW is able to defeat Elizabethtown tomorrow, Brian Rector could have a chance to claim his 400th career victory on March 24 when BW hosts Otterbein University in its OAC opener at the “Pop” Collins Tennis Complex in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
