BEREA, OHIO --  Senior number one singles and doubles standout Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) moved into third place on the all-time victory list and the Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team remained unbeaten at 17-0 overall with a 9-0 shutout victory against Ohio Athletic Conference rival the University of Mount Union this afternoon (Friday, April 6, 2012) on the “Pop” Collins Courts.

Trzeciak’s singles win was the 80th of his career. He is now 80-19 overall and surpassed former 2-time OAC Player of the Year Mike Wagner (2002-2005) for third place on the all-time Yellow Jacket victory list. Trzeciak is now a victory shy of tying former teammate Sam Burris (2008-11) who had 81 wins and an 81-19 slate.  He also is 75-24 career in doubles play. In addition, his two victories today (singles and doubles) give him 154 for his career to rank second all-time to James Daly (2005-08/ 196 career combination wins).

With its victory, BW is now 17-0 overall and 3-0 in the OAC and has shut out nine opponents this season. Overall, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the opposition, 141-12 this season. Mount Union dropped to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.

BW gained an early 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and won all six singles matches to stretch its winning ways to 17 straight.

In singles play, senior Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won 6-2 and 6-4 at No.1, junior Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won 6-4 and 6-0 at No.2, freshman Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won 6-2 and 6-3 at No.3, senior Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE) won 6-1 and 6-2 at No.4, junior No.5 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) won 6-2 and 6-1 and junior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) won at No.6 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.  Horvath’s singles victory was the 60th of his career. He is now 60-11 overall and ranks 13th all-time and is one win shy of 12th place Andy Kellar (1989-92/ 61-21 record) and two shy of No.11 Ward Crane (2002-05/ 62-17 record).

This season, Trzeciak tops the Yellow Jackets in victories with 19 and is 19-3 overall. He is followed by Horvath at 18-2, Patterson at 17-3, Kearney at 16-4, Bourdiaux at a perfect 14-0 and Beaton is 12-1.

In doubles action, the number one tandem of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux won by an 8-6 score, the No.2 duo of Horvath and Beaton won by an 8-4 score and the No.3 team of Patterson and senior Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) won by an 8-1 score.

In doubles play, the usual No.1 tandem of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux are 12-1, Horvath and Beaton also are 12-1 at No.2, the usual No.3 duo of Patterson and Long are 5-4 at No.3.
