The Baldwin Wallace University Men's Tennis Defeats Capital University, 7-0, to
Improve to 15-1 Overall and 4-0 in the OAC
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference-rival Capital University, 7-0, today (Sunday, April 10, 2005) in Bexley, Ohio. The win was BW's 36th in its last 37 matches, its 16th straight in OAC play dating back to last season.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC this season. Capital fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.
In singles play for BW, senior No. 1 singles player Mike Wagner (Avon Lake) defeated Robert Caress, 6-3, 6-4; freshman No. 2 player James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) defeated Jeff Good, 6-3, 6-0; junior No.3 player Brandon May (New Philadelphia) defeated Jerrod Wagner, 7-6 (5), 6-0; senior No.4 player Adam Slabodnick (Ashland) defeated Aaron Jones, 6-3, 6-3; sophomore No.5 player Ryan McCartney (Lorain/ Admiral King) defeated Patrick Chenault, 6-0, 6-3 and senior No.6 player David Sloan (Bellevue) defeated Brett Doughty, 6-1, 6-0. Daly improved his mark to a team-leading 21-2 overall.
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Wagner and Day defeated Caress-Good, 8-6, the No.2 pair of May and Slabodnick defeated Wagner-Jones, 8-3 and the No.3 tandem of Sloan and junior Dan Mitoff (Lorain/ Admiral King) defeated Chenault-Doughty, 8-1.
The Yellow Jackets next play on Tuesday, April 12 when they host OAC rival Otterbein College at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts in Berea at 3:30 p.m.
