Baldwin Wallace Beats Ohio Northern, 5-2, to Stay Unbeaten at 16-0 and
Improves its Ohio Athletic Conference Mark to 6-0
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival and defending Conference Champion Ohio Northern University, 5-2, today (April 7) in Ada. With its win, BW improves to a perfect 16-0 overall and 6-0 in the OAC. With its loss, Ohio Northern drops to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the OAC.
In singles play, junior No.1 player Mike Wagner (Avon Lake), junior No.2 player Ward Crane (Hudson/ Western Reserve Academy), senior No.3 player Alex Ison (Tallmadge), senior No.4 player Dean Morse (Wickliffe), sophomore No.5 player Brandon May (New Philadelphia) all won. At sixth singles, Ohio Northern's Thomas Major defeated BW's Derek Sloan. For the Yellow Jackets, Crane leads the team in victories with 16 and is 16-1 overall. Wagner and Morse are both 15-1, Ison is 10-1, May is 11-0 and Sloan is 10-4. Crane and Wagner each have 15-match winning streaks.
In doubles play, Ohio Northern won all three matches. After 16 matches, Wagner and Crane are now 11-1 at No.1, Morse and Ison are 8-1 at No.2 and Adam Slabodnick (Ashland/ Senior) and May are 5-1 at No.3.
The Yellow Jacket men will be back in action on Saturday when they host OAC rival Marietta College at the "Pop" Collins Courts at 1:00 p.m. BW will then travel to Bexley to play Capital University on Tuesday, April 13, at the Beck Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
