Tyler Beaton Closed Out The Match With A Straight Set Victory

BW Men’s Tennis Team Advances to OAC Tournament Semifinals With 5-0 Defeat of Marietta

BEREA, OHIO -- The top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated eight-seed  Marietta College, 5-0, today (Tuesday, May 1, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal Match at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

In the OAC Tournament, all matches are ended when the winning team reaches five team points regardless of the current progress of other matches still on court.   Each match will start with the three doubles matches and will continue with singles action until the winning five points are obtained.

With its victory, the Yellow Jackets improve to a school-record 26-0 overall and will advance to the OAC Tournament Semifinals to face the winner of  #4-seed University of Mount Union and and # 5-seed John Carroll University  match on Friday, May 6 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason at 4:30 p.m.  Marietta ends its season with a record of 7-10 overall.  

The other semi-finals match will feature of the winner of Wednesday’s match between  the winner of #3-seed Ottberin Univerity and #6-seed Heidelberg University against the winner of #2-seed Ohio Northern and #7-seed Capital. The OAC Championship Match is on Saturday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m.

BW took an early 3-0 led after the doubles competition and won two singles matches to close out the match at 5-0.

In doubles action, the No.1 duo of seniors Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) and Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE/ Lycee Saint Dominique) won by an 8-0 score, the No. 2 tandem of juniors Joe Horvath (North Royalton ) and Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point, N.Y./ Maple Grove) won by a score of 8-2 and the No.3 team of freshman Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) and senior Taylor Long (Ashland) won by an 8-0 score.

In singles play, junior No.5 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) claimed the fourth point as he won in straight sets by 6-0 and 6-0.  Beaton closed out the match with the fifth and decisive point as he won his match by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
