BW Men’s Tennis Blanks Thiel (Pa.), 9-0, To Remain Undefeated

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Thiel (Pa.) College, 9-0, tonight (Saturday, February 12, 2011) at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville. This was the second winter-spring match for the Yellow Jackets. Earlier today, BW defeated Penn State Behrend University, 9-0, at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina.
With its win, BW improves to 4-0 overall and dominated this match by scoring 90 of 100 total points, including 66 of 75 singles points and 24 of 25 doubles points.. With its loss, Thiel is now 0-1 overall.
The Yellow Jackets gained a 3-0 advantage in doubles. The number one duo of senior Sam Burris (Wooster) and junior Taylor Long (Ashland) won 8-0, the No.2 tandem of junior Andrew Orens (Brunswick) and freshman Joshua Pecinovsky (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) won 8-1 and the No.3 duo of senior Bobby Irwin (Ashland) and senior Justin Levine (Mentor) won by an 8-0 shutout.
In singles play, BW again dominated as they captured all six matches. Freshman Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) started things off at number 1 singles by winning, 6-0 and his second set was one by retirement. Irwin won at No.2 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-2, Long won at No.3 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0, Orens won at No.4 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-4, Pecinovsky won at No.5 won by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 and Levine won at No.6 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0.’
The BW men are back in action next Saturday, February 19 when they host Defiance at 1:00 p.m. at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina and then host Adrian (Mich.) College at 6:30 p.m. at the North Ridge Racquet Club in North Ridgeville.
