Baldwin Wallace University Men’s Tennis Team Defeats Defiance, 9-0; Plays Tiffin Later Today at 6:30
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Defiance College, 9-0 today (Saturday, February 21, 2009) at the Paramount Racquet Club in Medina, Ohio to improve to 2-0 this season. Later today, the Yellow Jackets play NAIA foe Tiffin University at the North Ridge Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio.
Against Defiance and in singles play, senior number one singles player Jim Kucera (Mentor), sophomore No. 2 player Matt Lachman (Cleveland Heights/ Lakewood St. Edward), junior No. 3 player Andy Redd (Archbold), freshman No. 4 player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake), sophomore No. 5 player Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) and sophomore No. 6 player Bobby Irwin (Ashland/ Senior) all won in straight sets.
In doubles action, the number one duo of Kucera and Lachman, No. 2 team of Redd and senior Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and No. 3 duo of Trzeciak and freshman Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) all won.
BW is back in action next Saturday, Feb. 28 when it hosts Oberlin College at the North Ridge Racquet Club in Rocky River at 6:00 p.m.
The Jackets then travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their annual Spring Break Trip from March 8-14. The Yellow Jackets open the 2009 northern schedule against Notre Dame College (of Ohio) on Friday, March 20 on the “Pop” Collins Courts in Berea at 5:00 p.m. The Ohio Athletic Conference season begins on Saturday, on March 28 when they host Mount Union College at the “Pop” Collins Courts at 1:00 p.m. The 2009 OAC Tournament begins on April 30 at the Lindner Family Courts in Mason, Ohio.
