BW Men’s Tennis Team Defeats Otterbein, 8-1, in OAC Match in Berea for 14th Win

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College, 8-1, today (Saturday, April 4, 2009) in an OAC match on the “Pop” Collins Courts in Berea. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved their record to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. Otterbein falls to 4-11 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets won all three doubles matches to gain a 3-0 advantage and clinched the victory after both senior number one singles standout Jim Kucera (Mentor) and junior two-time All-OAC and No.3 player Andy Redd (Archold) each won their singles matches.
In addition in singles action, freshman No. 4 Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake), sophomore No. 5 Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) and sophomore No. 6 player Bobby Irwin (Ashland/ Senior) all captured singles victories in straight sets. With his win at No.4 singles, Trzeciak increased his team-lead in victories to 17 and 17-2 overall, including 16-0 in dual matches. Burris is second with 16 wins and a 16-2 slate and Redd is third with 14 wins and a 14-4 mark. In addition, Trzeciak and Taylor Long are now 13-1 in doubles at No.3 and Redd and Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) are 12-4 at No.2.
BW will next play on Tuesday, April 7 when they travel to Ada to play Ohio Northern University in a key dual match at 3:30 p.m.
