Baldwin Wallace University Men’s Tennis Team Defeats Notre Dame College (of Ohio), 9-0, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Notre Dame College (of Ohio), 9-0, today (Friday, March 20, 2009) at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts in Berea. With the victory, BW picks up its fourth consecutive win and improves to 11-1 on the season.
BW veteran Head Coach Brian Rector, who has compiled a 337-71 career record in 20 seasons, is seeking to lead the Yellow Jackets to a seventh 20-win season in the past eight years.
In BW’s victory, senior number-one singles player Jim Kucera (Mentor), sophomore No.2 player Matt Lachman (Cleveland Heights/ Lakewood St. Edward), junior No. 3 Andy Redd (Archbold), freshman No. 4 Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake), sophomore No. 5 Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) and sophomore No. 6 Bobby Irwin (Ashland/ Senior) all defeated their opponents in straight sets.
In doubles action, the No.1 duo of Kucera and Lachman defeated Notre Dame’s Jimmy Goodwin and Andy Sherman, 8-1. The No.2 team of Redd and senior Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and the No.3 tandem of Trzeciak and freshman Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) also were victorious, 8-5 and 8-4, respectively.
BW opens Ohio Athletic Conference play tomorrow (Saturday, March 21) when the Yellow Jackets travel to New Concord, Ohio to play Muskingum College at 2:00 p.m. BW’s next home match is next Saturday March 28, when the Jackets host OAC rival Mount Union College at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
