BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein College, 7-2, today (Saturday, March 29, 2008) at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio.
The victory improved B-W to11-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC and won for the sixth straight time. Otterbein fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
In singles play, freshman Tyler Adams (Wheelersburg) substituted at number one singles for 2007 OAC Player of the Year James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and won his match against Otterbein’s A. Tyler Stephen, 6-4 and 6-1. Adams usually plays at second singles. Due to Daly’s absence, each member of the starting lineup moved up one spot in the lineup and junior Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) played at No.6 singles and won against Otterbein’s Jonnathan Smith, 6-1 and 6-2.
In addition to Adams and Long, sophomore No.3 player Andy Redd (Archbold), freshman No.4 player Matt Lachman (Avon Lake/ Cleveland St. Edward) and freshman No.5 player Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) all won in straight sets.
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Adams and Lachman and the No.3 duo of Redd and Long both won easily. Otterbein’s two victories came at No.2 singles and No.1 doubles.
The next B-W men’s tennis match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2008 when the Yellow Jackets will travel to University Heights to OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival rival John Carroll University at 4:30 p.m.
