BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 6-3, today (Saturday, April 5, 2008) in Alliance. The win was B-W’s eighth straight.
The victory improved B-W to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the OAC. With its loss, Mt. Union is now 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC.
In singles play, senior No.1 player James Daly (Akron Firestone), the 2007 OAC Player of the Year, freshman No.2 player Tyler Adams (Wheelersburg), sophomore No.4 player Andy Redd (Archbold), and freshman No.6 player Sam Burris (Wooster/ Senior) all won.
Daly’s win, the 95th singles victory of his career was a 7-6 (7-3 tie-breaker) and 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker) triumph against Mt. Union freshman Zach Perry. The deciding singles match was when Adams beat the Purple Raider sophomore Brian Mogus by the scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (11-9 in the tie-breaker).
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Daly and Kucera and the No.2 tandem of Adams and Lachman won 8-2 and 8-4, respectively to give B-W a 2-1 advantage entering the singles matches.
The next B-W men’s tennis match is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, April 6 when they travel to Tiffin to play a rescheduled match against OAC foe Heidelberg College at 1:00 p.m.
