BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team went 1-1 yesterday (Sunday, February 24, 2008) at the Kenyon College Tri-Match in Gambier, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets opened the day by beating Walsh University, 9-0, before falling, 9-0, to No. 23-ranked Kenyon in the nightcap in Gambier, Ohio.
With the split, B-W is now 5-3 overall and are idle until they travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C. March 9-12 for its annual Spring Break trip.
In its win versus Walsh, senior number one player James Daly (Akron/Firestone), freshman No.2 player Tyler Adams (Wheelersburg) and freshman No.6 player Sam Burris (Wooster/Senior) all won in straight sets while junior No.3 player Jim Kucera (Mentor), junior No.4 player Andy Redd (Archbold) and freshman No. 5 player Matt Lachman (Cleveland Heights/St. Edward) won in three sets. For Daly, his victory was the school-record 88th of his career.
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Daly and Kucera, the No.2 tandem of Adams and Lachman and the No.3 duo of Redd and junior Zach Long (Ashland/Senior) all won their matches.
Against Kenyon in singles play, Daly, Adams, Kucera, Redd, Lachman and Burris all lost in straight sets.
In doubles play, the duo of Daly and Kucera, the duo of Adams and Lachman and the duo of Redd and Long all lost.
In Hilton Head Island, B-W will open up play on March 9 when they play East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University at 3:00 p.m.
