BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s tennis team defeated Allegheny (Pa.) College, 6-3, today (Friday, April 11, 2008) in a nonleague dual match at the Robertson Tennis Facility in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The win was B-W’s 10th in a row as the Yellow Jackets have not lost a dual match since February 24.
The victory improved B-W to 15-3 overall, while Allegheny dropped to 13-4 overall.
In singles play, five of the six matches went to third set super tie-breakers and B-W was victorious in three of those matches. Senior No.1 player James Daly (Akron Firestone), the 2007 OAC Player of the Year, won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Allegheny’s Matt Chiricosta to record his 98th career victory at singles. However, it was the play of freshman No.2 player Tyler Adams (Wheelersburg), junior No. 3 Jim Kucera (Mentor), and freshman No.5 player Matt Lachman (Cleveland Heights/ St. Edward), who all won in the third set super tie-breaker, which gave the Yellow Jackets the decided advantage in singles play.
In doubles play, the No.1 duo of Daly and Kucera and the No.2 tandem of Adams and Lachman gave B-W a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
The next B-W men’s tennis match is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 12 as the Yellow Jackets resume Ohio Athletic Conference play when they travel to Marietta to play Marietta College at 1:00 p.m.
