B-W Men's Tennis Team Beats Wilmington, 6-3, to Improve to 19-2 Overall and 7-2 in the OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 6-3, today (Saturday, April 21, 2007) at the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea. It was the final regular season match for the Yellow Jackets.

With its win, B-W improves to 19-2 overall and 7-2 in the OAC and opens OAC Tournament quarterfinal play at home on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against a yet to be determined opponent. With its loss, Wilmington falls to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in the OAC.

In doubles, Wilmington built a 2-1 advantage as only B-W's number one tandem of junior No.1 singles standout James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and sophomore No.5 singles standout Jim Kucera (Mentor) won, 8-2.

In singles play, Daly, freshman No.3 singles player Andy Redd (Archbold), freshman No.4 player Zach Apperson (Zanesville/ Rosecrans), Kucera and freshman Zach Long (Ashland Senior)all won.

With his win, Daly is now 24-2 this season and 75-7 in his career in singles play (a .914 winning percentage) and is four wins shy of tying Mike Wagner's (2000-2004) all-time school-record of 79 career wins. He has won 12 straight singles matches. In doubles play, Daly and Kucera improved to 15-1 this season and he has combined with two separate partners to win 20 of the last 21 matches and has a 20-1 overall doubles record. Daly is B-W's all-time leader with 67 career doubles wins, a 67-10 career doubles record, 142 career combination (singles + doubles = combination) wins and a 142-17 career mark with an .893 winning percentage.

Following the Yellow Jackets' OAC quarterfinal game next Tuesday, the winner of that match travels to Mason to participate in the 2007 OAC Men's and Women's Tennis Final Four and the Linder Family Tennis Center.
