BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College, 9-0, today (Monday, April 16, 2007) at the Richard A. Sanders Tennis Center in Westerville.
With its win, B-W improves to 18-1 overall and 6-1 in the OAC and has won four straight matches. With its loss, Otterbein falls to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.
In doubles, B-W bulit a 3-0 advantage as the number one tandem of junior No.1 singles standout James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and freshman No.4 player Zach Apperson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans), the No. 2 duo of senior No. 2 player Ryan McCartney (Lorain/ Admiral King) and freshman No.3 player Andy Redd (Archbold) and the No. 3 duo of sophomore No. 5 player Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and senior No. 6 player Dan Mitoff (Lorain/ Admiral King) won.
In singles play, Daly, McCartney, Redd, Apperson, Long and Mittoff won.
With his win, Daly is now 22-2 this season and 73-7 in his career in singles play (a .913 winning percentage) and is six wins shy of tying Mike Wagner's (2000-2004) all-time school-record of 79 career wins. He has won ten straight matches this season. In doubles play, Daly and Apperson improved to 5-0 this season and he has combined with two separate partners to win 19 straight matches this season and a 19-1 overall doubles record. Daly is B-W's all-time leader with 66 career doubles wins, a 66-9 career doubles record, 138 career combination (singles + doubles = combination) wins and a 138-16 career mark with an .895 winning percentage.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to Ada to play a key OAC match at Ohio Northern University at 3:30 p.m.
