BEREA, OHIO -- The third-seeded Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team lost the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Match to top-seeded Ohio Northern University, 5-0, today (Saturday, April 28, 2007) at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
With its loss, B-W ends its season at 21-3 overall. With its win, ONU improves to 15-7 overall and advances to next week's NCAA Division III National Tournament by virtue of winning the OAC's automatic berth.
In doubles, the Polar Bears built a quick 3-0 advantage. Despite their losses, the number one tandem of junior No.1 singles standout James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and sophomore No.5 player Jim Kucera (Mentor) fell to 18-2 overall, the No. 2 duo of senior No. 2 player Ryan McCartney (Lorain/ Admiral King) and freshman No.3 player Andy Redd (Archbold) ended their season at 11-6 overall and the No.3 duo of freshman No.6 player Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and senior Dan Mitoff (Lorain/ Admiral King) ended the season at 16-9 overall.
Daly, this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, did not complete his singles match today. He ends the season at 26-2 overall, including 14 straight victories, and 77-7 in his career in singles. Daly is two wins shy of tying Mike Wagner's (2000-2004) all-time school-record of 79 career wins. Daly is B-W's all-time leader with 67 career doubles wins, a 67-11 record, a school-record 144 career combination (singles + doubles = combination) wins and a career overall slate of 144-18. Despite their losses or unfinished matches, Apperson ends the season at 14-6 and Kucera was 13-5, McCartney was 13-9, Redd was 16-7 and Long was 18-5.
